Plug and Play easy!
This curriculum is out of the box easy. The chapters are easy to read or listen to. I love the activity book as it really helps students connect dots to what we have just read. I love how easy it is to teach history with this curriculum for my 2nd grader and 5th grader. We will continue to use them for our other kids. I wish they had more subjects that were set up this easy!

Great History Resource
I love this series. It has amazing variety while maintaining an unbiased view of history. I also love how it keeps a chronological timeline so we can see the rise of difference civilizations over the same periods of time, even though some of them never interacted. I like the inclusion of Biblical history as well, so we can see it in conjunction with the other ancient civilizations. Great worksheets and suggestions for activities. The questions provided also encourage great discussion. Volume 1 is not elevated or complicated. I use it to teach history to my 3rd and 6th grade children.

Why did you choose this?

I really enjoy this series, how easy it is to use and to add on to. My kids enjoy tests and the worksheets and having it as a package really helps make sure we have the right ones and don't miss any of them.

it looked comprehensive.

Story of the World is amazing. My kids love learning history this way. It reads like a story, but is factual and unbiased. Highly recommend!

The best price around for the Vol 1 bundle!

How many chapters or weeks does SOTW vol 1 cover? Can I cover vol 1 & 2 in a year?

Both Volumes 1 & 2 have 42 chapters each. Depending on the level of your student and how in-depth you want to go, it would be possible to do both books in a year (my sister-in-law did). Most of the chapters are broken into 2 - 3 sections, each ranging from 2 - 5 pages, and there are hands-on activities that go with each chapter. I started out doing a chapter a week, one section a day and 2 days of activities, but my daughter didn't want me to stop at the end of each section, so we started doing a chapter a day and another day or 2 or activities and made it through faster than I expected. If you did one day of reading and one day of activities for each chapter, or even combined the reading and an activity into a day, you could finish both in a year.

Do you need to complete Volume 1 before doing Volume 2? Or can you do these in any order?

You can do them in any order. Each volume is a stand alone course. However, the entire series is based on the idea that it is valuable for children to cover/learn history in a chronological manner.
