Category Description for Step-by-Step Sentences: Book 2

Created to accompany the Simply Classical Curriculum, this would also work well as a stand-alone introductory writing course for young elementary children or those who have been overwhelmed with other programs and may need a slower, methodical approach.

Books begin with "Teacher Notes," which contains helpful information like the supply list (colored pencils, pencil with good eraser and required resource books), teaching tips and a suggested schedule. A list of 12 Rules about Sentences follows which is integral to the lessons and serves as a valuable reference for student and teacher of the basics for good writing. Each leveled book is available in two options: Bible Story Edition or the Read Aloud Edition without Biblical content.

Book 2 builds on the concepts taught in Book 1. More in-depth coverage is given to grammar and sentence structure including: sentences vs sentence fragments; declarative, interrogative and exclamatory sentences; adjectives, adverbs, nouns, pronouns, verbs; synonyms, antonyms; story synopses; main ideas, and more. Writing lessons culminate with students writing themed paragraphs using their own words or the included prompts. Writing lines measure 3/8" and have a dotted center. The Bible Story Edition requires The Story Bible (#053115). The Read Aloud Edition includes numerous additional resources, see website or contact us for the list. Families purchasing the Simply Classical Level 3 American History Read Aloud Set will not need to purchase additional resources for Book 2. At this level, there is a separate Teacher Answer Key which includes the student pages with provided answers, reproducible visual aids, book or bible verse list, reproducible templates for additional practice and certificate of completion. Student Books 145 pgs. pb. Teacher Answer Keys are 155 pgs. pb. ~ Deanne

Great writing program for special needs!
This is the 2nd level of the Simply Classical writing program. I am using this for my 10 year old Autistic child who really struggles with writing. It has been a great curriculum for him! There is one short page to complete, 4 days per week. It covers grammar and writing skills. I would say this curriculum covers skills that are typical of a 1st-2nd grade level, but it is not "childish", so is appropriate for special needs students of any age. The Story Bible book has beautiful illustrations (again, not childish). There over 100 stories in the book; however, this curriculum only uses 1 story per week and skips a lot of stories. You could read the skipped ones separately if you wish, but it is not necessary, since the ones being used for this program still go chronologically and cover most of the most common ones. I have found that the teacher guide is not really necessary. It only gives the answers, which are pretty self-explanatory, so I rarely reference it. Once in a while it can be helpful when the student has to answer a question that requires a more involved answer, but that is rare, and it is still not necessary. The written answers do not have to be exactly like the answer key. I so wish that Memoria Press would continue this series with higher levels, but so far this is it.
