I’m looking at getting a prek deluxe kit. Do I need to get a kindergarten kit for my older son as well or just new workbooks/teacher guides?
If you are getting this kit for PK, then you are correct - just get the print books for K.

How much overlap in the HWOT kindergarten kit is there with the pre-K kit? Would I need to start with the pre-K bundle, or is this an appropriate entry-point into the program?
I would say that depends on the skill level of the students. The pre-K kit starts with vocabulary of letter formation and basic structure and then builds from there. If your students know basic letter formation (start at the top, big line down, little curve, little curve) then you could skip the pre-K.
