Description
Publisher's Description of Modern History Portfolio & Timeline

Develop a habit of inquiry by researching, reading from quality sources, writing on topic, and illustrating with relevant images. Be the journalist. Tell the story.

Product Description:

The Modern History Portfolio "classic" offers a notebooking approach, and can be used alongside various non-fiction sources and history read-aloud sources such as Story of the World and Mystery of History.

The body of the Modern History Portfolio, printed on cardstock paper, is divided into chapters of commonly studied topics, such as Colonization, The Age of Revolution, Expansion and Conflict, The Civil War/The War Between the States, Crisis in Europe and at Home, and The Cold War Era and Beyond. The attractively formatted Portfolios contain an entirely unique system of "image boxes" and "text boxes" which support and showcase the student's work. Black-line maps are provided within each chapter.

Companion products are the History Portfolio Full Color Reference Maps, and the History Portfolio Teacher's Guide. The Teacher's Guide contains specific suggestions of what to research, read, and write about for each and every "text box" in the Portfolio. In addition, cut and paste material found in the Teacher's Guide includes numerous black line illustrations for the "image boxes" and plenty of puzzles and activities to reinforce and review.

Each Portfolio is designed for use by an individual and will become a unique record of the student's journey through history... a keepsake and a "book to treasure!"

*For children in grades K - 3, consider the Modern History Portfolio Junior. The Junior Portfolios contain fewer notebooking pages than the "classic" versions, and therefore require much less writing. Notebooking activities focus on observation, comprehension, penmanship, copy work, memory work, beginning writing skills, and plenty of games and puzzles for reinforcement and review. NOTE: The Juniors contain the same chapter titles in the same order as the Classic volumes, allowing older children using the Classic volumes and younger children using the Juniors to work side by side.

Category Description for Classic Portfolios

There are so many unit studies and curriculums that culminate in the creation of a dedicated notebook which contains all of the work and information the child has learned about the topic. If you are looking for something better adapted to this process than the ol' binder and notebook paper combo, you will definitely want to check out the History Portfolios. Based on the same concept as a blank timeline, this series offers you actual history portfolios which hold many blank maps, spaces, and lined paragraphs for you to fill out for each time period. The books are divided chronologically over four time periods that align well with classically-based programs: Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance and Modern History. For example, the medieval book provides separate sections for the Christians, the West Roman Empire, the Celtic Tribes, the Germanic Tribes, the Building of Kingdoms (Frankish, England, France, and Germany), the East Roman Empire/Byzantium, and the World. Each section contains blank maps and empty spaces for copywork, drawings, reports, narrations, lists and more. A detailed table of contents at the beginning shows you what features are included for each time period, making it easier to plan with your history program (you may want to note that the appendix material and resource suggestions previously found in the History Portfolios are now found in the Teacher Guides for each time period). The end of the book provides a unique timeline, which is intended to be taken out of the book, attached sheet-to-sheet, and used to record events and important people that are studied. This series provides a worthy foundation for personalized, thorough history portfolios.
