While the visuals are black-and-white, they are detailed and clearly labeled. Review questions consist of true/false and multiple choice questions, along with a short list of questions students can use for further research, writing assignments, or be extended into projects. Answers to the short answer questions are found in the back along with a glossary and index. This series could form the core of an upper-elementary or middle school science program, or be used as topical supplements to study a topic in more detail.
