Publisher's Description of George Muller (CHT&N)
With scarcely enough food or money for his own family, George Müller opened his heart and home. Sustained by God's provision, the Müller house "Breakfast Club" of thirty orphans, and grew to five large houses that ultimately over ten thousand children would call home.   George Müller trusted God with a depth rarely seen. His faith and generosity set a standard for Christians of all generations (1805-1898).
Category Description for Christian Heroes: Then and Now

When I compared this series to a similar series, I favored this one for several reasons. The stories are told in a very personable way, allowing the reader to feel like he really knows the person. While it's not told in first-person, the details and emotions make it seem like that person is actually sharing their own story. This series also goes into more detail, including their childhood, so you can see how they were raised and what they were like in their youth. Instead of just telling the facts, you read about funny instances that happened to them, things they probably wrote home about to give their family and friends a laugh. As you read about their life you can see the hand of God leading them, and how they faithfully strive to serve Him, even when it seems impossible. My sample was Amy Carmichael, who was a very obedient woman. When everyone told her to stay, she went anyway, because she knew God was calling her. She traveled, overcoming many disappointments to carry the Word of God to people in India and Japan. These are really uplifting books; seeing how obediently the men and women followed God is truly inspiring.

Several of the biographies are now available as audiobooks on CD. These run about 4-5 hours in length and are a great format to enjoy as a family. Biographies of women are read by a woman and biographies of a man are read by a man. - Stephanie
