Farm Anatomy: Curious Parts and Pieces of Country Life
I liked how this book is written by someone who grew up in NYC. We here in central IL can take what we are surrounded by for granted. There are farms, barns, animals of all sorts, tractors, and such. But this book is written by someone looking upon this life with fresh eyes, explaining it to someone without prior knowledge, and the result is charming. Her model farm is in Iowa as proven with the rich dark topsoil illustration. Apparently, we folks in IL and IA are a bit snobby about our rich soil. (Just ask someone from a red-soil state!) The illustrations and text have a hand-done look, while still being easy to read. This would be a good book to have in your home library whether you live on a farm or are far from any at all. Open to any page and learn something new! ~Sara
