Hands-on learners often need something to see and manipulate to help them retain new information. This is an interesting little set of foam pieces that center on a number 1-20. There is a frame (5.5" hexagon) the pieces fit into. A student can change the number in the center and fit the corresponding pieces around it. For example, if the center number is 20, you have pieces that show 6+14, 32-12, 10+10, ten less than thirty, 25-5, and five more than fifteen. There are two additional pieces in French that read: “cinq de plus que quinze and dix de moins que trente". On the back of the pieces are 20 dots in a 4 x 5 pattern. The idea is for a student to show all relationships within the number 20. The foam pieces come together and are easily separated. Once separate, the puzzle becomes to find all of the correct pieces for the center number. As they search, they can set aside pieces they know are related to another number and do that family next. This is a good activity for a learning center (they are quiet), or at home for practice between lessons. ~Sara
