Poetry Comprehension Grades 6-8
Long important to culture, studying poetry also strengthens literary analysis skills. Students just might discover all the poetic elements around them! Introduce students to famous and well written Western poetry from primarily 19th century male and female authors (Bronte, Poe, Eliot, Wordsworth, Burns, Rosetti, and more). Although representative selections, you may wish to preview. Typical of the period, you'll find references to Greek gods and some archaic material. The first section uses shorter selections to teach poetic imagery (such as simile and allusion) and structures (like rhyme and rhythm). Then, use 18 longer poems for analysis and assessment. You'll find these included resource pages helpful: poetry web sites, common poetry style definitions, a glossary, ten comprehension steps, and poetic devices used. Answers are included; standards available at the Carson Dellosa Website. Perforated pages reproducible for single classroom only, 62 pgs, pb. ~ Ruth
