Description

Providing both instruction and practice in traditional cursive, this one, multi-age volume uses straight-forward teaching the IEW way. Stroke order is emphasized (c, i, loop, and hill starters for lowercase; top circle, top check, drop down, slash up, curvy top, salute, from the floor, and backwards loop starters for uppercase) as well as the importance of consistent practice. Tasks 1-12 take the student through the lowercase letters; tasks 13-24, the capital letters. Tasks 25-32 provide inspiring quotes as copywork. Quotes are taken from a wide variety of persons including Dr. Seuss, Socrates, and Audrey Hepburn (but no Christian content). Lines are 1/2" inch wide with dotted middles but change to 5/16" inch with dotted middles partway through the copywork. Includes reproducible extra sheets with 5/16" inch lines. Several downloads accompany the purchase of this course: reproducible practice sheets and two audio talks by Andrew Pudewa ("Paper and Pen"; "On Writing"). Includes a cardstock sheet with a sample alphabet and a list of the starters. 114 pgs, spiral-bound ~ Janice

Publisher's Description of Cursive Knowledge

For students of all ages who are either new to the art or who have already learned cursive and need a refresher, this course resource provides clear instruction in upper and lower-case letter formation, reproducible practice sheets, and high-quality source material for meaningful copy work.

Why learn cursive?

Studies show that cursive helps with the problem of letter reversals, spacing issues within and between words, and even short attention spans. The title, Cursive Knowledge, gives a nod to the phrase, "curse of knowledge," which occurs when an individual unknowingly assumes that others have the background to understand a concept. For students of all ages who are either new to the art or who have already learned cursive and need a refresher, this course resource provides clear instruction in upper and lower-case letter formation, reproducible practice sheets, and high-quality source material for meaningful copy work.
