Basic Language Skills Teacher Guide
The Teacher Guide includes daily, guided lessons, schedules for half or full year, reproducible worksheets, and an answer key. Lessons will take about 20-30 minutes per day and include skills such as: reading practice, trickier vowel sounds, writing words and sentences, and picture study. On Fridays, students build their own dictionary by writing and illustrating dictionary using words that were featured in the reading assignments that week. The book is 3-hole punched and perforated.

Features: The suggested weekly schedule enclosed has easy-to-manage lessons that guide the reading, worksheets, and all assessments. The pages of this guide are perforated and three-hole punched so materials are easy to tear out, hand out, grade, and store. Teachers are encouraged to adjust the schedule and materials needed in order to best work within their unique educational program.
Workflow: Students will read the pages in their book and then complete each section of the Teacher Guide. They should be encouraged to complete as many of the activities and projects as possible as well. Tests are given at regular intervals with space to record each grade. If used with younger students, they may be given the option of only choosing activities or projects of interest to them and taking open book tests.
Lesson Scheduling: Students are instructed to read the pages in their book and then complete the corresponding section provided by the teacher. Assessments that may include worksheets, activities, quizzes, and tests are given at regular intervals with space to record each grade. Space is provided on the weekly schedule for assignment dates, and flexibility in scheduling is encouraged. Teachers may adapt the scheduled days per each unique student situation. As the student completes each assignment, this can be marked with an X in the box.
Utilizing engaging children's storybooks which are designed to capture your student's heart and promote a love of reading, Basic Language Skills provides review and expansion of phonics skills along with beginning communication skills and language arts. Use for one semester following Foundations Phonics (see Phonics section) or for a full year with students who had introductory phonics in kindergarten.
