Description

The writings of an era are always one of our best sources of information. This edition’s selected medieval stories and documents have withstood the test of time, have affected cultures and ideologies greatly, and still hold long-lasting appeal. This anthology, edited by Rebecca Berg Manor and Rebecca Allen, provides us with an excellent (and student-manageable) cross-section of literature that traces medieval culture from the beginnings of Christendom to the Age of Exploration. Newly updated from Beautiful Feet Books, this edition provides a broad selection of medieval authors who affected change in culture and religion. The 24 selections range from the Nicene Creed to a letter from Galileo. Selections, organized by literature type, include excerpts from Augustine’s Confessions (Early Christian), Deeds of Charlemagne (Romanesque), Battle of Brunanburh (Old English), Song of Roland (Arthurian), Song of the Creatures (Late Latin), selections of Divine Comedy (Medieval), Personal Accounts of the Plague (Middle Ages), Address to Christian Nobility (Reformation), and writings of Copernicus and Galileo (beginnings of the Renaissance). This edition is a senior high resource for the 2024 edition of Beautiful Feet's Medieval History: A Literature Approach and is a good reference/resource book for any high school medieval history study. This text can be used with the ©2013 edition of Medieval History: A Literature Approach for Senior High School. However, the page numbers have changed. You’ll need to source My Story of Calamity for one assignment (no longer available in this new edition) and the Confessions of St. Augustine for a mentioned optional assignment. 249 pgs, sc. ~ Ruth
