This charming hard-cover book was written and illustrated by 16-year-old Anna Zimmerman. Annas story was chosen as the overall winner of the Rainbow Resource Center 3rd Annual Summer Book Contest (2017). Her story centers around 12-year-old Jenny and her family. When the orphan train comes to town, their family adopts a new daughter, Clara. The story involves loss, anger and eventually friendship. We are so proud of her hard work! It began as a simple idea, create a summer contest for young authors using a product we sell, a make-your-own book kit from Lulu Jr.. The owners loved the idea and offered cash prizes! We decided there should be three age groups between 7 and 18 and came up with a theme and some rules. Every author who writes a story receives their own beautifully constructed book directly from Lulu Jr.. Here in the RRC office, we read a digital version of every story provided by Lulu Jr. and several judges score the entries. It is quite a process for us to read all of the entries during back-to-school season!
The summer book contest has grown and we have covered a
variety of literary genres and themes. One overall winner is selected each year
and Rainbow sells their book. That is who you see represented here. Sales
generate a royalty stream for the author and they own all rights to their
material. We hope you enjoy the quality writing and illustrating demonstrated
