Look Inside Science (Usborne)
What could be a boring overview of the different branches of science (materials, plants, anatomy, light, sound, forces, earth and space) truly comes to life in this engaging Usborne presentation. The study book is made up of 8 two-page spreads, each of which allows the reader to discover more about each topic through the lively illustrations, short captions, and over a hundred flaps, fold-outs and tabs. Even more fun are the "flaps within flaps," each of which encourage the reader to dig a little deeper and rewards them with additional fun details. For example, one page on materials is illustrated to look like a shelf, with different objects (a purse, beakers, a vase, a scarf, etc.) labeled with what they are made out of. When you lift the beaker flap, it shows beneath how glass is made from sand which is heated and shaped. Beneath that flap is another illustration that shows why glass is useful for making windows. For only having 13 pages, this is one book that can provide hours of browsing for the curious (and tactile!) learner! Jess
These Usborne lift-the-flap books are made of thick quality pages and feature full color illustrations with lots of engaging flaps. Children will love to learn many interesting details about science related topics as they move through this series. The short text descriptions give just enough information to stimulate and satisfy the curious minds of young children.
