The author had an interesting idea with this book – write a story that boys would enjoy reading and write it in prose. Yes, the author uses poetry! And it works! In the back of the book are some questions for the author. In this section, she provides readers with helpful insights and her remarks are so very interesting. On one hand, the poetry makes for a quick read. But on the other hand, it shows us the weight of words and makes us appreciative of her choices. You have some heavy themes here: the Vietnam war in general, children fathered by American soldiers that were treated badly, airlifting children out of Vietnam, and adoptive families. Also in the back of the book is a recipe for moon cakes, directions for making a paper lantern, and lots of questions about the game of baseball! ~Sara
