Description

Hooked on Phonics: Learn to Read Levels 1 & 2 (Pre-K) starts with teaching the letter names and sounds. Children who haven’t mastered the alphabet and letter sounds should start here. They will learn both uppercase and lowercase forms of the letters as well as blending sounds. If they are already comfortable with the alphabet and sounds, the Grade K Kit may be a better fit. Each lesson on the DVD combines audio and visual features, with animations of letters joining together, and then a speaker reading the word. After a series of words has been covered, the segment is shown again, and the child is encouraged to read the word before the speaker says it. The DVD never gets tired of taking your child through the words. Now you can take that content with you anywhere with online access too. Just register your product online and you can stream all the video lessons! Use the lessons as often as you like; the goal here is mastery of letters and sounds. The audio component is really a plus, as it allows children to listen (and re-listen) independently to solidify understanding.

Category Description for Hooked on Phonics

The fun, colorful, and easy-to-use Hooked on Phonics program has been around for many years, undergoing consistent improvements in organization and content. Each grade-level kit contains a DVD, workbook, several readers, and reward stickers. Along with the DVD content, all sets include access to My.HookedonPhonics.com, which includes online streaming of all videos, plus bonus content (worksheets, songs, etc.). The workbooks are high quality and visually interesting. Engaging Storybooks represent different authors and illustrators (some of them award-winning), which makes the program more attractive for developing readers.

Most lessons will take about 20 minutes and are formatted the same way: Watch the DVD lesson, then read the corresponding pages in the workbook. After practicing the words, students read a story, then “celebrate” with a reward sticker. Grade-level kits contain two smaller boxes with materials organized by levels. The PK Grade Level Kit contains Level 1 and 2, and you may also purchase the levels separately: Level 1 Uppercase Letters and beginning sounds or Level 2 Lowercase Letters and beginning sounds.
