Once students have learned all about the creatures of the air and the basics of zoology, they can take a trip into the depths and discover all the strange and unique creatures of the sea, lakes, and rivers. They'll learn about the special features of swimming creatures, the different watery environments they live in, what their lifestyles are like, and the special circumstances they deal with. Then they take a closer look at specific groups of swimming creatures, including whales, seals, sea cows, sea turtles, sea snakes, sea frogs and toads, primeval reptiles (like plesiosaurs), fish, sharks, rays, crustaceans, cephalopods, echinoderms, cnidarians, sponges, leeches, and more. As they study these creatures, they'll create replicas of them to add to an ongoing "Ocean Box," and conduct neat experiments like discovering the insulating power of fat, investigating how electrical current travels through salt water vs. fresh water, and determining how much of a role temperature plays in tadpole development. They'll also add to their notebooks by drawing the animals in them, comparing and contrasting animals, and much more. Whether the ocean is a familiar place to your children or not, they'll be equally fascinated by learning about the unique creatures beneath the water.

Simplifies Science
I wasn't sure if my children (ages 10 and 8) would like or even want to use these notebooks along side our Zoology 2 science this year. I decided to buy them and try them out anyway and it turns out they absolutely LOVE them! We use notebooking in our homeschool for many of our subjects and I think they especially enjoy these notebooks because it is somewhat guided for them while still allowing for a lot of creativity and imagination. I love having all the pages in one book. No having to search Pinterest or Google for pages or ideas to use with our science lessons. Highly recommend especially if you already use the notebooking method. It has helped my children remember many of the concepts taught in the book.

I have not found the student notebook to be very useful.
I find several of the worksheets not very useful or interesting. I probably would not order the student notebook again.

Great addition to the book
We love the apologia science curriculum and this journal made it so much easier for me as mom/teacher to keep them focused as we progressed through the chapters. We enjoyed the booklets/projects at the end of each chapter and it was a positive addition to our studies.

Simplifies my day
Since I don't use a boxed curriculum I can easily get bogged down with finding supplemental materials. These notebooks have a wide variety of worksheets to keep interest and help retain knowledge.

The hardest part is deciding what NOT to do!
Adds fun and doable activities to an already great textbook. One of the best things is the list of recommended books and videos to go along with each chapter. Makes everything easier for mom!

Love Apologia!
This book is great for applying all we're learning in the textbook. We did Zoology 1 last year and this book is similar in format. My kids especially enjoyed the crossword puzzles! The extra book recommendations in each chapter are very helpful. We ended up getting a beautiful bird documentary from the library last year based upon one of the lists given and it added tremendously to our study. I love this curriculum - highly recommend getting both textbook and journal!
