Description

This classic work by Marcus Aurelius, the Roman philosopher and emperor, provides a "manual" for living a virtuous life. Aurelius gives insight and advice on everything from dealing with adversity and interacting with others to coming to terms with life and death. This manual is divided into eleven books (some with themes, such as Debts and Lessons), with each book containing plenty of maxims, sayings, musings, and reflections. Some of the musings are brief (one or two sentences), while others are several paragraphs long. All are numbered for convenience and ease of reference. The front of the book contains an introduction by the translator, Gregory Hays, while the back of the book has an index of persons and plenty of notes to explain some of the more difficult-to-understand aspects of this ancient text. 191 pgs, hc. ~ Lisa
