So far I am absolutely loving this curriculum for my second grader (my preK guy participates too and enjoys it a lot). It's a wonderful introduction to chemistry at a level that young children can understand (and fairly low-prep for the parent/ teacher which I love). There are plenty of simple activities to keep things interesting. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to add science into their homeschool day.

I love this series
My kids are currently 1st grade, 4th grade, and 6th grade. I have used the life, earth & space, chemistry, and currently using physics. I loved the Chemistry one. I think the experiments were great and my kids and I had a blast with this curriculum.

Great chemistry for elementary students
Both my child and I like this chemistry. She likes it because it is engaging, and I like it because it is all laid out, ready for me to teach.

Perfect for my son
We just started using this book and it is my first try and homeschooling. The book is fun and holds my sons interest. I was concerned that there were no tests but I am seeing that we don't really need them. Ethan is learning from the experiments and the reading. Tests were always a problem with him at school even though he knew the material. He is having fun and no stress from tests! I ask him questions and he has all the answers. I really like this curriculum!

I have taught with their Astronomy and Earth Science manuals and enjoyed using them. I like how the scientific method is applied with most if not all labs. Entertaining for my daughter and the labs…

It looks fun and easy to teach with all the labs already laid out. All I need to do id read the instructions and buy the materials ahead.

Is this a binded book or is it loose pages?
Teh Kong C
It's a bound book like a paperback, but the pages are perforated so you can tear them out.

is there a teacher guide?
This book is a teacher guide with student workbook pages in it. In the very beginning of the book there is a suggested timeline to make this book last the entire year. Each lesson has a script you can read off of or you can explain the lesson your own way. For the labs it tells you the procedures and also the answers to the workbook pages is also included. This is a great curriculum, I have used biology, earth science and the chemistry, and I plan on using the physics curriculum this year. There is also separate student workbook pages available for purchase, but I just take them out and copy them out of the book. You can also buy the hard to find lab materials or if you want to just make sure you have them you can purchase a kit at home science tools dot com.

Does this contain student pages or do you have to purchase those separately?
Jessica S
Notebook pages are included for every lesson, and for each lesson students will do one or more labs with a corresponding notebook page. You can copy notebook pages for your family if you're working with more than one child. If you don't want to copy, you can purchase just the student pages separately.
No. it doesn't have quizzes or tests, although is does have crossword puzzles and such to check retention. This doesn't really have lesson plans, but it is very user friendly, you just open it up and go with it. The big thing is having all the supplies for the experiments (there is one almost everyday), there is a list at the front telling you what you need to have when. We really enjoyed this curriculum, I felt like it taught chemistry in a very thorough, fun and interesting way, my daughter learned A LOT.

What kinds of materials will I need to complete this course? Are they things I probably have around the house or will I need to purchase extra materials?
Abdalla E
There are a couple of extra things....a science themometer if you don't already have one from previous science studies, some copper insulated wire, there is a lab that calls for helium filled balloons. The majority of the supply list is grocery items. You can view the complete supply list and the first few chapters on the publishers website.
