It is picnic time and five colorful ants race along a trail toward the towering anthill, collecting matching food tokens with the goal of earning the most points to win the game. There are five levels on the anthill and each ant will land on a level when they arrive. Which level they end up on determines how many points players receive for the matching food they have collected.
There are four types of “bites cards” and one of each is drawn at the beginning of the game to add variety by changing rules. For example, which level of the anthill each ant will inhabit when they reach it might be re-ordered, or it might change the value of a specific type of token. Two special food types are wine and chocolate, and these tokens are scored based on the rules of their matching bites card.
Begin by creating a random food trail leading to the anthill. Place all five ants at the beginning of the trail. Each player takes turns moving one of the ants either to a food of its color, making sure to follow any movement or food collection rules specified on an active bites card. Try to predict which food will be worth the most points based on each ant’s position on the anthill and try to collect the most of those tokens as well as special wine and chocolate tokens.
Once all ants reach the anthill, all the food tokens players have obtained are added together based on the end positions of their matching ant, with the special tokens for wine and chocolate scored based on their “bites rule” card for that game. The person with the most points wins the game! There are additional components and rules included for a longer and more challenging version. For 2-5 players with a 20-minute game time.
Publisher's Description of Bites Game
Five ants are making their way through a picnic full of food. On your
turn, move any ant to the next food in the trail that matches their
color, then take the food token directly in front of or behind the ant,
saving it to score at the end of the game.
However, you don't
know for sure how much the food is going to be worth until the matching
ant makes it to the Anthill at the end of the trail. This creates shared
incentives as you work with other players to advance some ants and hold
others back.
Every game is different because cards are drawn
from four decks to make a unique set of special rules. These drastically
change the goals and strategies so you will never play the same game
twice (unless you want to).
Your actions will change the
incentives for the other players. Can you manage these cascading effects
to collect the most valuable food collection? Can you recognize how to
change your strategy based on the wildly different rules cards?
