During these grades, kids often focus on being able to read; this series helps them gain tools to understand what they're reading. Each book provides 120 supplemental activities to build and maintain reading skills (i.e., think summer reading), with each activity highlighting a specific skill. This book is designed to be done with an adult's help: reading the passage, following instructions, and completing the activity. You as teacher will help decode words, encourage rereading, model how to interact with reading, and ask follow-up questions. For all three levels, students learn to narrate; describe key characters, events, and ideas; answer detail questions; clarify meaning and main point; and more. Grade 2 adds the concepts of main topic and point, compare/contrast, and word choice affecting text. Answers and notetaking pages are located at the back. 135 pgs, pb. 8 ½"x 11" ~ Ruth
The second book in the Verbal Math series is a wonderful way to stretch your children's minds mathematically, and have them figure things out mentally and not on paper. Each chapter has a number of different types of equations...single and double digit subtraction, addition, skip counting, and word problems, and single digit multiplying and dividing. This has helped speed up the math process in other lessons as well since it starts to become second nature. There are a few editing errors that need to be addressed but otherwise a great investment in your child's math education.
