Description

Students are free to explore cursive penmanship with the help of Zaney, their digital tutor, in the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Grade 3 program. Midline spacing has reduced in size to facilitate uniformed and proper sized lettering. Unit 1 is a review of manuscript handwriting and offers lettering practice on smaller midline lines. Unit 2 explores the individual upper- and lower-case cursive letters, then begins instruction on the differing penmanship strokes. Moving forward, each cursive letter receives a lesson. Letters are intentionally not presented in alphabetical order so students start writing whole words early on. Manuscript Maintenance is presented throughout to practice earlier skills while learning cursive writing. By Unit 4, students are applying all the skills they have learned to write narratives with correct formatting, like: retell a story; write an opinion essay; explain how to complete a favorite activity. Pages are perforated for easy removal. Pgs. 155, sc. ~Rebecca

Category Description for Zaner-Bloser Handwriting (2020 Edition)

The handwriting style that defined “traditional” is coupled with exercises to provide clear instruction in all aspects of handwriting. It covers the four basic letter strokes, slants, spacing, and lots of practice, giving children a solid foundation in legible handwriting! Taking a theme-based approach (history or literature), Level K begins with hand-eye coordination and stroke practice and ends with the complete alphabet. At the lower level, manuscript is practiced through names and places, writing greetings, etc. In Grade 2, students either continue with manuscript instruction and practice in the 2M Book or can be introduced to cursive in the 2C book. Higher grades continue cursive instruction and handwriting refinement, as they copy and interact with larger selections. Student books include a QR code that links to “how-to” videos.

Program components include full-color student books, teacher books, and reproducible practice books. The consumable Student Book is written in an engaging manner and contains ample instruction and modeling, making it possible to use it independently. Teacher Editions open flat and continually emphasize the Review-Practice-Evaluate process and provide helpful information to evaluate handwriting, including teaching the student how to self-evaluate. Reduced-size student pages are shown, along with student reminders, teaching tips, scope and sequence, corrective strategies for specific problems, and support for various learning needs (including English Language learners). Note: The ZBPortal mentioned in TE is not available for home school use. The Practice Book is a collection of reproducible masters to provide students with extra practice. The Teacher Edition coordinates the Practice Book with the Student Book. The Student Book can be purchased separately or in a bundle to best meet your needs. Bundle options include the Student Edition plus Practice Book; Student Edition plus Teacher Edition; and Student Edition, Teacher Edition, and Practice Book. Optional helpful Zaner-Bloser tools are also available.
