Character Quality Language Arts integrates dictionary/thesaurus-driven vocabulary study, word-family spelling, phonics review and reading comprehension, both systematic grammar and editing practice, along with thorough, incremental, comprehensive writing instruction. The overall teaching methodology is Teach - Practice - Apply. Teaching segments use rhymes, jingles, mnemonics, and sentences for reference material. Practice includes sentences, recitation, and preparing Grammar Cards. The Checklist Challenge provides the application. The first day of each week is vocabulary, the last day a spelling test and everything else is in between. Monthly units focus on a single character quality. Lesson Notes provide detailed daily lessons; sidebars include teaching tips; answer keys are weekly. The courses are well organized and clearly focused, but they take some getting used to. Courses are consumable; one per child per year.
