If you are looking for a relaxed overview of artistic principles with projects using a variety of media that can be used for up to a year of high school art – here you go. Studio Art was designed to work alongside art history – particularly, The Master and His Apprentices. You see the correlation in the 30 projects inspired by time periods and artistic movements. Before the projects, your student learns 10 basic art principles – how to use them and how to recognize them in artwork. This course could be used by a Christian school or co-op with an art teacher. As an independent learning option, you may want to find some online videos demonstrating the various skills. The instruction allows for the student artist to find their own style and delight in what they are able to create without being discouraged by mistakes. You will need supplies for drawing (graphite pencils & blending tools), sculpting (air-dry clay & tools), and painting (acrylic paints/brushes, & palette knife). See pages 8 & 9 for a more detailed supply list. You could use this course and coordinate art with your history lessons! ~Sara

Both the student and facilitator sections are contained in this single volume. The flexible, multi-level approach can earn students .25-1.0 art credit. Additional art supplies are required; however, many families find that they have the necessary supplies lying around the house to complete almost half of the projects already.
