You really do!
What's included is the student text book, tests and worksheets book, and the answer key book. You probably have to order an additional student text book and tests/worksheets book individually or buy two of this kit, but you'll have an extra answer key book.
After a fashion. The worksheets are fairly similar to the fact tests in the older edition. The tests are specific to the 4th editon and there might be a few changes in terms of lesson order but you should be able to use the newer edition tests with the older edtion text. Just beware that you may run into an occasional type of problem that hasn't been covered yet.
As far as I know, it is not aligned.
Why do you want to align with common core? If the goal is to score well on standardized exams, this text will get you there, regardless of it's alignment. Very thorough, spiral in nature, and complete.
We are not able to make any changes/substitutions in the kits. However, the consultants are happy to work with you to develop a custom curriculum plan based on the kits. (There's no charge for this service.)
The textbook has the lessons/explanations and questions/problems to solve. The worksheets book has the tests, timed/math facts daily tests, and any supplemental worksheets for selected lessons. The "teacher book" has just the solutions.
Balancing out frugality and ease of use, I would get 1 textbook, 1 teacher/solutions book and 3 worksheet books.
The copyright date is 2005. There are timed tests for every lesson. There is an investigation after every ten lessons, and there are tests every five lessons(starting at lesson 10). On investigation days, there is no timed test. But there is on test days. There is a box at the beginning of every lesson with mental math, and a special problem to solve. Then the student reads the lesson, then does the lesson practice problems. Next is the Mixed Practice which is 30 problems from all the lessons before including that days' work.
I bought ours last summer June 2015 and the copyright date is 2005.
We are switching math programs.
I have never talked to anyone who has used Saxon math for their homeschool kids who didn't like it!
Saxon has worked well for my kids.
Excited to try this excellently reviewed product with my daughter.
