This is a fun little kit for young ones who want to start using a microscope. The set includes a plastic microscope and plenty of plastic accessories scalpel, spatula, stirring rod, tweezers, test tube w/ cap, Petri dish, pipette, specimen vials, 3 prepared slides, 6 blank slides, 8 slide labels, 8 slide covers, slide storage case and instructions. The magnification is 150X, 450X, and 900X, but you won't get the viewing quality that you get with a higher quality scope. Viewing area is narrow and the light must be focused directly on the slide. Mom or dad may want to focus the scope to alleviate frustration for the child. Requires 2AA batteries, not included.
