Illustrated Robert Frost (Illustrated Poets)
- Large-format hardcover book is a lovely addition to your home library
- Easily add poetry to your current ELA curriculum with discussion questions
- Attention-getting artwork draws you into the poems
Illustrated Poets featuring 25 poems by Robert Frost is a lovely book to have in your home library. Students will find themselves curious about this rather attractive book and will wonder what lies between the covers. You can clearly see the book itself is a vibe, a mood, if you will. One becomes pulled into the poems through the words and illustrations. You can leave it there, an individual experiencing poetry in their own way. Or, you can make it part of your homeschooling ELA using the tips at the beginning, questions in the margins, defined vocabulary words, facts about the author, and curious discussion ideas (e.g. If this poem were an egg, what might hatch from it if it got enough warmth and attention?) While the book is religiously neutral, Frost occasionally references God in his nature poems. Hardcover, 64pp ~Sara
From "Birches" to "The Road Not Taken," no poet has won such a place in our hearts as Robert Frost.
In this gorgeously illustrated collection of poems, readers are introduced to twenty-five of Frost's most beloved works, each illustrated with stunning, full-color collage artwork. Brief commentary and helpful definitions accompany each poem, making The Illustrated Robert Frost among the most accessible?and beautiful?introductions to Frost available. Poems include "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening," "Mending Wall," "Fire and Ice," and many more.
The Illustrated Poet books are absolutely gorgeous! I would call them gift-worthy. If you are into artwork and aesthetics, you are certain to appreciate the pairing of poetry with beautiful images as a background. The words somehow connect to the surrounding page and create a treat for the eyes and ears. A hardcover and pretty inside-cover paper are just lovely. Academically speaking, the margins (also pretty) have questions and conversation prompts along with definitions. The language of poems is often beyond the vocabulary we use regularly, so this is helpful. The questions and prompts easily translate to a writing assignment. In the back, there is a short bio of the author listed as 10 Things to Know About __. An interesting section called Commentary on the Poems highlights quotes from the poems and tells the reader to “notice” this or that. There is a section called “Faith & Imagination” where the reader is asked to consider the faith of the author and even your own. While this would be an opportunity to bring in God, it is not telling you what to think. I am utterly charmed by this series and hope more titles will come! If you have a student reluctant to study poetry, or if that is you, this book might just win you over. ~Sara
