Publisher's Description of Learn to Read with BOB Books and VersaTiles Beginning Readers Set

Bob Books readers introduces letter sounds in this set. Children add on more and more letter sounds until they have learned the alphabet (except Q). The first book in the set is called "Mat." In this book children are taught four, letter sounds. This set includes 12 books in the popular Bob Books Collection.

Alongside these books children can practice the skills they are learning by doing activities in their VersaTiles workbook. This tried and true practice system creates a hands-on way of reviewing what they are learning in their Bob Books. Simply line up the puzzle-like answer case on top of the page in the book, and line the tiles up on top to start. Pick up each tile 1-8 and answer the question underneath it. Once each tile is placed, close the case, flip it over and see if the pattern matches what is on the bottom right corner of the workbook page. This practice is what helps children to comprehend what they are learning and gives them confidence in their reading abilities.

Engage your beginning reader with a fun puzzle-like way to practice reading!

* 1 VersaTiles Kindergarten Case

* 1 VersaTiles Workbook

* 12 Bob Books Readers

Category Description for Bob Books

Why are these much-acclaimed set of phonetic practice readers so irresistible to the beginning reader? Perhaps it's the size - just right for small hands; or the length - beginning books in the series are just 12 pages long so your child can read the whole book. Or maybe it's the interesting text as opposed to the bland stuff found in many controlled vocabulary readers. Of course, it could be the simple but charming line-drawings that grace each page. Then there's the bright colors of the covers - or the whole "box" concept complete with stage and finger puppet. Whatever their attraction, a few things come through clearly - they work, kids love them, and grown-ups just aren't sure why! However, these readers have been long used by Montessori teachers in the classroom, too.

There are five sets in all, with 12 books ineach set. Sets 1 and 2 are for beginning readers and feature consistent sounds and short vowels in three-letter words. The color illustrations feature small splashes of color in the same shade as that book's cover. Although only small bits of one shade of color accentuate the illustrations, the effect does make them "pop". Sets 3 and 4 include blends, endings, and occasional sight words. Set 3 has 10 books and Set 4 has 8 longer books. Set 5 also has 8 longer books which contain long vowel words, compound words, sight words, and longer stories.

If you want to nurture a child's lifelong interest in reading, Bob Books would be an excellent place to start!

Category Description for Learn To Read W/Bob Books & Versatiles

Bob Books® readers practice beginning reading skills. This set takes each 12-book early reading set and adds fun VersaTiles®: a set of white, sturdy plastic 1 1/2" square tiles. One side displays a number (1-8); the other, part of a design. Start each activity with the sturdy plastic answer case (7 3/4"x 4 3/4") as shown on each page of the included, sturdy 20-page workbook. Start with the numbers in order in the top section, covering Bob story pictures. Then read the directions (skills practiced are listed on each page). They might match pictures and sounds, finish sentences, rhyme words., etc. They take each tile and place it in the correct answer spot below. Once completed, close the case (pushing the green knob). They check their pattern with the pattern shown in the workbook. If it's not the same, try again! They'll quickly get the hang of it, and be moving page to page to solve the puzzle—reading all the while. ~ Ruth
