Originally discovered in a copybook kept by young George Washington, the Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior has been a popular copywork resource for homeschool families over the years, including my own. This new edition is a delightful and practical resource for homeschool families. Containing each of the 110 maxims, this workbook dedicates one page per rule. The rule is listed at the top of the page, followed by single lines to copy the rule. At the bottom of the page, students are encouraged to paraphrase the rule in their own words on the subsequent single lines. While most rules are unchanged from the original, some have modernized spelling and conventions to allow students to copy proper forms. Additional explanations or definitions are included with a few of the rules to aid understanding. A complete list of all rules is included in the back of the book. In this workbook, students practice their writing by copying the famous rules of etiquette that our first president copied into his own copybook as a young student. Copywork isnt only about penmenship, however, and after copying these maxims of civility and decent behavior, students paraphrase the rule into their own words. With this workbook format, it is easy to add copywork to the school schedule.

My son love history and has also developed great penmanship. I thought this book would be a great way to reinforce his skills while getting to know the sayings of George Washington even better.
