We tried many different, "newer" math curriculums with no perfect fit. This has challenged my children and has shown the most growth in their math education. We LOVE Saxon!

Reliable math program
The teacher guide is extremely helpful in providing conceptual lesson plans. The worksheets help reinforce the concepts taught in the current and previous lessons. Flashcards are included with the texts and are color-coded for different concepts. The switch to Saxon Math has been beneficial to my daughter because the pace of Saxon is not overwhelming and gives students time and repetition to master concepts before moving on to more difficult ones.

Levels…
A bit disappointed so far. Used the placement test before settling on this level, and so far everything is wayyyyy too slow and easy for my son. He was on the cusp of the next level up according to the placement exam. If your kid is on the cusp, I’d say go for the next level up. Hard to keep him engaged so far. I may just skip ahead a bit and see how that goes.

Saxon is a solid program
I have used Saxon for just about every grade. I am using it in conjunction with Life of Fred. Life of Fred is also a solid program, but I also have Saxon so I can see where they are at with it's tests and re-enforced concepts. Saxon helps with record keeping and tells me exactly where they are having an issue and provides extra practice with the 2nd page of practice for each lesson. The "open and go" is another wonderful feature to this curriculum.

Math is now her favorite subject! Worth every penny.
We were previously using a different math curriculum and it was a fight each day to get her to do it because she was bored and thought it "too babyish" as there were so many pictures and graphics that she said distracted her. My daughter is 8 years old.

Day one, after opening the curriculum, she immediately tackled several worksheets and enjoyed her work. Then throughout the day asked, "Hey can I do some more of that new math?" and proceeded to do several more of her own accord.

My husband and I are thoroughly impressed with the Saxon curriculum and plan to use it in years to come. We've had it a little over a month now and my daughter is growing in her love of math each day. We can see she is grasping the concepts quickly and retaining them! Wow. Very grateful for this well designed program.

I love the straightforward no nonsense worksheets that look "grown up". So much child-centered curriculum is littered with LOTS of pictures, graphics, bright colors, and lots of "extras" on the page. I'm sure this is intended to keep a child's attention. If your child enjoys these "extras" as it were then Saxon is not the program for you. That being said, there are plenty of opportunities for learning math, making it interesting and holding attention through variety: manipulatives, making drawings of word problems, etc.

We are thoroughly impressed! Worth every penny!

I like that it tells me exactly what to say. It has a lot of repetition, which is good for my 2nd grader.

This curriculum has been perfect for us! Open and go and explains it well. It tells you exactly what to say to teach the lesson. Would definitely recommend!
