Saxon Math 2 Home Study Kit
The Math 2 Home Study Kit contains the Teacher Edition, meeting book, and a set of 2 workbooks. No manipulatives are included in the Home Study Kit; those are a separate purchase with several different options available.
The 132 lessons cover skip counting; comparing numbers; solving problems; mastering all basic addition and subtraction facts; mastering multiplication to 5; adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers; measuring; perimeter and area; telling time to 5 minutes; identifying angles; and graphing.
Continuing and reinforcing the lessons in Math 1, Math 2 covers a larger range of critical concepts, such as working with larger numbers, geometric shapes, Venn diagrams, graphs, basic arithmetic calculations, and simple fractions. Day one, after opening the curriculum, she immediately tackled several worksheets and enjoyed her work. Then throughout the day asked, "Hey can I do some more of that new math?" and proceeded to do several more of her own accord.
My husband and I are thoroughly impressed with the Saxon curriculum and plan to use it in years to come. We've had it a little over a month now and my daughter is growing in her love of math each day. We can see she is grasping the concepts quickly and retaining them! Wow. Very grateful for this well designed program.
I love the straightforward no nonsense worksheets that look "grown up". So much child-centered curriculum is littered with LOTS of pictures, graphics, bright colors, and lots of "extras" on the page. I'm sure this is intended to keep a child's attention. If your child enjoys these "extras" as it were then Saxon is not the program for you. That being said, there are plenty of opportunities for learning math, making it interesting and holding attention through variety: manipulatives, making drawings of word problems, etc.
We are thoroughly impressed! Worth every penny!
30+ years of homeschooling has shown me that this curriculum is fantastic for learning
we've completed math 1 and enjoyed it so decided to continue
Its needed
The classical Christian school we collaborate with to educate our homeschooled son uses this curriculum.
