Description

Exactly what their name implies, this set of fourteen books provides fully decodable words. Designed for students just beginning to read, there are two hand-sized (not quite 6" square) books for each of the seven Jolly Phonics sound groups. The words build cumulatively through those groups. Employing all the little decoding helps we expect from Jolly Phonics – sound dots, silent letters printed in faint type, and, primarily, colorful illustrations that fill in the engaging “story" around the words. For instance, in the tenth book, Moon Landing, we see three “astronauts" (zim, vaz, woof) flying through space (orbit, rocket, rings), landing on the moon (moon, landing, boot), observing the moonscape littered with junk (look, mess, junk), cleaning it up (broom, sand, dusting, sweeping), and leaving their planted flag along with a recycle bin (wink, vroom). Sound dots are shown below one or two words in each book, giving the teacher an opportunity to carefully sound out the words, tapping a dot for each included sound.
