Description

Chosen by Memoria Press as the text for their high school level American History course, this "concise" history is nevertheless lengthy with its 800+ pages of text. Covering pre-Columbian native American history and cultures briefly, it provides a grand and detailed sweep through American history with chapters tending toward 10-30 year segments. Drawing heavily from, but shortening and revising, a massive history (hence the "concise" in the title) first published in 1930 and revised four times over three decades, this is a second edition published in 1983 and brings American history to the Reagan era. Marked by authoritative scholarship yet written in a narrative style and illustrated with 30 maps and over 250 paintings, cartoons, and photographs, this will be both a challenging and an enjoyable read for the serious student. 859 pgs, pb ~ Janice

Note: This course has transitioned from a 2-year course to a 1-year course. Older edition books, titled “Year 1” and “Year 2” will be available until sold out.

This one-year course is a comprehensive political, economic, and cultural survey of American history up to 1980 featuring a Textbook, Student Guide, Teacher Manual, and Quizzes & Tests book.

The 800+ page Text is basically a reader divided into 36 chapters. The Student Guide is consumable, providing a course outline with worksheets for each chapter broken into the following categories: Introduction, Key Concepts, Comprehension Questions, Essay Questions, and Other Activities. The Quizzes & Tests help evaluate student progress and mastery for all 36 chapters. The Teacher Manual includes an introduction, overview, summary, and conclusion for each chapter with reduced student pages and answers filled in. This course can be used in either a class or homeschool setting, but students will receive the most benefit when there is opportunity for engaging discussion/conversation with a teacher or parent.
