Description
Publisher's Description of Music for Little Mozarts Music Lesson Book 1

Lesson Book 1 is pre-reading. Concepts taught are: How to sit at the piano; Correct hand position; High and low; Loud and soft (forte and piano); Keyboard topography; Bar line and measure, Quarter, half, whole notes and rests; and Repeat signs. The first pieces in the book are played on the black keys. Later in the book, C D E for the RH and C B A for the LH (Middle C position) are taught with letter notes (the name of the note is written inside the note head).

Characters introduced: Mozart Mouse, Beethoven Bear, and Elgar E. Elephant.

It can be a challenge to teach younger kids, especially things like playing musical instruments. This series provides a simple, attractive approach to teach piano to the younger students. Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear guide your students through the lessons, introducing concepts in an easy-to-understand and enjoyable way. The lessons read almost like a story, and they start at the very beginning by talking about the sounds of the piano and proper positioning. Kids will progress to playing simple songs on the groups of black keys, then proceed to finding notes and playing songs on the white keys. By the end of the Book 1, kids know and can play five of the seven notes. The lessons and songs in Book 2 get progressively more challenging as the student keeps learning additional notes and concepts. In Book 3, they start learning chords, and by the end of Book 4, they will have learned about various musical styles, composers, reading music, and identifying rhythms and melodic patterns. There are also CD's to accompany each level of lesson and discovery books, so the student can hear how the examples and songs sound. A CD symbol in the book shows where you can use the CD's in the lesson, and it also has all of the music discovery songs. A lesson assignment book provides assignment pages, practice records and lesson evaluations. Also, there are fun, musical adventure coloring books for each level. To help you organize the extras, a teacher handbook has lesson plans and teaching tips. Everything you need to develop your little Mozart. ~ Melissa

It’s more for someone who is instructing rather than a self learner.
This book work if there was an instructor who plays piano available. My daughter wanted more of a book to help self teach as we are in a rural area and don’t have access to an instructor.

Music for Little Mozarts was chosen for my children as an alternative to weekly piano-lessons and it was a perfect introduction to piano playing The book welcomes the student into the adventures of fictional characters and the music to be played on the piano coincides with the adventures of Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear The story continues throughout every piano lesson on each page With only five piano keys learned by the end of the book it does progress slowly However neither my child now I felt it was too slow He also learned note counts (quarter half whole) and rest counts and learned the value of correct counting in each music melody playedThe lessons do start with the black keys which I found interesting -- there is now the familiarity of playing sharps and flatsAnother quality of the lesson book is that words are included to make each melody played a song So we had the opportunity to integrate voice lessons as he played the pianoAlthough I can play the piano I don't think musical experience is necessary to teach piano with this book I think it is the perfect choice for the music-loving family on a budgetWe are about to complete Lesson Book 2 and plan to continue to Lesson Book 3
