My young children enjoyed this reader when we studied the gold rush and Western expansion. Follow a family as they travel from Missouri to California to search for what their hearts desire: gold. Or could it be more? We also enjoyed the time-period music with lyrics sprinkled throughout the book, such as, "There's Gold in California" and "I'll Make you a Map." With the additional black and white illustrations, this is a fine book by prolific writer Clyde Robert Bulla. 5" x 7", 100 pp, pb. ~ Ruth
