Charlotte Mason
A methodology based on the work of a 19th century educator who maintained that children learn best from literature (Living Books), not textbooks.
Classical
A methodology based on the Latin Trivium (three stages of learning), including the grammar stage (memorization and facts), logic stage (critical thinking), and rhetoric stage (developing/defending ideas).
Unit Study
A thematic or topical approach centered around one topic that integrates multiple subject areas.
Montessori (Discovery)
A methodology based on the work of a 20th century educator that emphasizes student and sensory-driven discovery learning and real-life applications.

Description
Clearly written and fully illustrated, the Novare Chemistry for Accelerated Students presents a more intense study of the Novare General Chemistry content, and includes additional chapters on the purpose of chemistry, measurements, atoms and substances, atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, molecular theory and metallic bonding, chemical reactions, kinetic theory, various laws pertaining to gases, solutions and concentrations, acids and bases, and redox chemistry. The history of modern chemistry, mathematics and technical communication is emphasized throughout. Answers to selected exercises are found in the back of the text along with some helpful information in the appendices. It is very important to read the teacher and student information found in the preface of the text - this is where you will get a thorough explanation of the philosophy of the author and the best way to use the text. Every chapter begins with stated objectives, presents the information into smaller chunks that are offered in numbered sections, and rounds out the chapter with study questions. The author believes in questions that require complete sentences as a response, so you won't find any true/false, matching, or multiple-choice questions. The hardcover text is smaller than some (7"x 10") so the print is smaller, and there are colorful illustrations throughout.
Publisher's Description of Chemistry for Accelerated Students

Chemistry for Accelerated Students is an ideal text for students who love science and aspire to a STEM-oriented college program. This book contains up-to-date chemistry information, beautiful illustrations, and lucid narrative. It also supports Novare's trademark mastery-learning paradigm. This accelerated text is a more intense treatment than our General Chemistry text. This text includes additional chapters on thermochemistry, chemical equilibrium, and a glimpse into organic chemistry. Ample exercises are included in each chapter giving students plenty of opportunity to develop skills. Explanations move along a little faster and go into a little more depth than the grade-level text. Although the mathematics involved in chemistry are generally not advanced, Chemistry for Accelerated Students is recommended for students who are concurrently enrolled in Algebra II. As with all Novare textbooks, our design philosophy guides the layout and composition of the text. Colors and images are attractive without being distracting. Our books are designed to be read and studied, and the presentation as well as the voice of the narrator supports that.

Category Description for Novare Science Courses

Novare Science emphasizes that science education needs to be renewed using research, scientific evidence, and forward-thinking strategies while keeping God at the helm. Students are taught to see God in creation, while learning current scientific theories including the evolutionary theory. Using a mastery approach, students learn fewer topics in more depth than typical courses while reviewing previously learned key concepts. Self-created lab journals and reports are suggested to prepare students for high school and college sciences. Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth Science are taught at the middle school level. At the high school level, Novare takes a Physics first approach to science and offers two pathways for students: Grade-Level Pathway and the Accelerated Pathway. Parents and teachers are encouraged to read From Wonder to Mastery by John Mays to learn about the program philosophy.

Novare Science offers two High School Pathways that link a student’s math placement and science courses. The Accelerated Pathway was created for students who have taken Algebra 1 in eighth grade, then aligns with a high school math sequence of Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, and Calculus. Taking a Physics first approach, the Accelerated Pathway for Novare Science is Accelerated Studies in Physics and Chemistry, Chemistry for Accelerated Students, Advanced Biology, and Physics Modeling Nature. The Student Lab Handbook is recommended for all courses.

Written for students with a passion for the sciences, this rigorous program will prepare students well for college level Science courses. Providing an accelerated scope and sequence, and course pacing, this program covers all the concepts in the Novare General Chemistry text at a greater depth and adds additional topics including thermochemistry and kinetics, chemical equilibrium, and an introduction to organic chemistry. Exercises are abundant and help students master the material. Due to the rigorous nature of this program, it is recommended that Algebra II be taken concurrently. Physics is a pre-requisite. If your student has taken Biology and not Physics, it is highly recommended the Novare Chemistry Supplement be used to prepare them for the course. It is also assumed students understand the SI system of units and unit prefixes and can demonstrate proficiency with unit conversions and computations. A short tutorial is available in the appendix. In the Novare Science High School Accelerated Pathway, this course follows Accelerated Studies in Physics and Chemistry. The course is written from a God-centered worldview that understands current scientific theories to be compatible with a belief in God’s creation. Required resources include the Student Edition Textbook, Digital Resources, Solutions Manual, and an Experiment Book. There are two options to add lab experiments to meet your high school transcript requirements: Chemistry Experiments for High School at Home written for homeschools or schools without a standard lab facility or the  Chemistry Experiments for High School for schools or other facilities with standard lab equipment and lab space available. Optional and valuable resources include the General Chemistry Lab Kit which offers most supplies for the Chemistry Experiments for High School at Home and the Student Lab Handbook.
