- Written to align with the latest GCE “O” Level Chemistry requirements by the Ministry of Education, Singapore
- Engagingly written with informative infographics, vibrant photographs, and real-life examples
- Core Text used alongside the Chemistry Matters Workbook and Practical Book
Filled with a variety of vibrant illustrations, from photographs to flow charts and infographics, this softcover Chemistry textbook contains 24 chapters that help students understand chemistry as real, useful, and interesting. Topics align with the MOE Syllabus, covering experimental chemistry, atomic structure, chemistry of reactions, acids and bases, periodic table, the atmosphere, and organic chemistry. Each chapter begins with several questions and wraps up with real-life application of the chapter content, key ideas, get-it-right questions, quiz questions, and review questions. Along with textual information, the text includes instructions for hands-on investigations, science bites of related information, concept cartoons, example problems with detailed solutions, notes for where to insert workbook assignments, and prompts to try to answer the opening questions. Answers to the get-it-right self-evaluation questions are found in the back of the book. Solutions to the textbook questions are found in the Chemistry Matters Teacher’s Planning Guide.
Chemistry Matters is designed to promote learning with understanding while cultivating essential 21st century competencies. Students are engaged in their learning as they build foundational knowledge and develop critical higher-order thinking skills.
Learning concepts are engaging and easy with attractive infographics that simplify complex information to aid conceptual understanding. Marshall Cavendish's carefully designed activities enable experiential learning while authentic contexts show conceptual connections to real-life.

Components of Chemistry Matters:
The Textbookcan be used in a school or home setting for 9th-11th grade students. It can be read independently; although there are numerous questions given in the margin for discussion. Students should have a basic understanding of algebra and how to work with formulas and measurement units. The focus is on inorganic chemistry, but there are a few chapters on organic chemistry. There is a review at the end of each chapter, and though many of the problems can be answered without doing any of the experiments in the practical book some of them are better understood if the student has some laboratory experience.
The student textbooks include access to the ebooks at no additional cost.
Meeting the GCE “O” Chemistry syllabus requirements from Singapore’s Ministry of Education, Chemistry Matters provides a college preparatory chemistry course. Through the course students learn about experimental chemistry, atomic structure, reactions, acids/bases, the periodic table, organic chemistry and more. There are 3 core components: Textbook, Workbook and the Practical Book. Numerous supportive resources are available including the corresponding Teacher Guides, the Structured Questions Book, and the Perfect Guide. Please note, some of the experiments may be challenging to complete at home. Families may wish to add a separate resource like the Illustrated Guide to Home Chemistry Experiments or Experiences in Chemistry.
