The Messerschmitt Me 262 was produced by the Germans near the end of WWII. It was the first jet-powered aircraft ever to be used in combat and was designed to help turn the tide of the war in Germany’s favor. The aircraft functioned as a light bomber, reconnaissance plane, and night fighter, and was especially effective in dogfights. However, despite its success, the Messerschmitt was introduced too late to help Germany win the war. The jet featured four 30mm cannons, twenty-four 55mm rockets, and two 550lb bombs. It could also achieve an impressive top speed of 560 miles per hour.
