Piece together your own Ilyushin IL-2 with this 643-piece COBI building block set! Part of COBI’s World War II Historical Collection, this set contains all of the blocks needed to construct the iconic Soviet aircraft.
The Ilyushin IL-2 is a Soviet ground-attack aircraft used during WWII between 1941 and 1945. It is known for being the most-produced military aircraft in history with over 42,000 being built. IL-2s featured two forward-facing 23mm cannons along with two 7.62mm machine guns, as well as a larger 12.7mm manually-aimed machine gun in the rear. The IL-2 was capable of carrying up to eight rockets and 6 bombs.
This 1:32 scale model features a rotating propeller, moveable wing flaps, a cockpit that opens, and wheels that both roll and fold up into the body of the plane. A pilot minifigure is included. Publisher's Description of Ilyushin IL-2 1943 Shturmovik - 643 pieces (World War II Planes)
One of the most famous planes from World War II, the IL-2 was designed and mass-produced in the USSR starting in 1941. Production of subsequent versions of the Il-2 was canceled only a few years after the war. In total, about 36,000 of these aircraft were built. The initial versions struggled with many problems and were replaced in 1942-43 by Il-2 aircraft with a two-man crew, more powerful engines and reinforced armament. This model presents the original design of the wings, which was completely different than in the slightly later IL-2M3 model, in which they got a more aggressive angle of attack. In the West, the plane gained the popular name "Shturmovik."
The IL-2 aircraft was designed from COBI construction blocks in the scale of 1:32 using new elements. The block model offers many movable elements such as a rotating propeller, movable wing ailerons and wheels with rubber tires that can be folded to a horizontal position. Details and historical winter camouflage have been reproduced. The blue underside of the plane definitely draws attention. The cockpit canopy has been redesigned and can be opened to seat the pilot and gunner figures in the seats. Thanks to a special display stand with a plate containing the name of the plane and a place to attach the figures, the whole set looks fantastic! The model uses durable prints and historical markings. The set completes the collection of WWII planes issued in 1:32 scale, intended for enthusiasts of history, military technology and fans of the highest quality block modeling!
