Description

Learn the “why” behind geometry through a series of engaging videos that explore geometry concepts in a logical order. This mastery-based online program is broken down into units covering the structure of geometry, essential elements (fundamental terms & fundamental theorems, and simple closed plane curves (triangles, other polygons & circles). Online materials for the course include the instructional video lessons and a pdf of all the books: course notes, student worktext, solutions manuals, instructor guides, and progress tests. The online program includes two student activation credentials, one is activated immediately and the other is activated upon request. The subscription is valid for three years once activated. After completing Modules A-E (Units I-VI), students earn a geometry credit. Geometry should not be taken until students finish Modules A-E (Units I-VIII) in Videotext Algebra.

Videos are high quality and instruction is thorough, usually 5-15 minutes. The computer- generated graphics and animation have color-sequencing so the students can see the relationships develop. The colors they chose for the videos are also great for eye tracking. There is a person at the beginning of the video introducing the curriculum; then students see just the board. Students should listen to the video, using the pause button to answer questions, and resume playing to continue.

After the video, students use the Course Notes to review what they have watched on the screen. These course notes follow the video lesson chronologically. If your student is not understanding the concept fully, it might be a good idea to watch the video again while using the course notes.

The Student Worktext offers examples and provides exercises for the student to practice what he has learned. Important concepts are also reviewed. When the exercises have been completed, the student can then use the solution manual to check and correct work. The Solution Manual includes worked out answers to all the problems in the student worktext.

Progress Tests include quizzes, unit tests, cumulative reviews, and comprehensive exams. Two versions of the tests and quizzes are available, allowing for retesting. Detailed solutions for all quizzes and tests are in the Instructor’s Guide.

This program is homeschool friendly, independent, and teaches mastery and reasoning behind the concepts. ~ Gina

This course is PC and MAC compatible. iPad and iPhone are soon to follow per Videotext.

Publisher's Description of Geometry Complete Online Course

The Geometry Program addresses two of the most important aspects of mathematics instruction.

First, the inquiry-based video format contributes to the engaging of students more personally in the concept development process. Through the frequent use of the pause button, you, as the instructor, can virtually require interaction and dialogue on the part of your student. As well, students who work on their own, can simulate having an instructor present by pausing the lesson every time a question is asked, and trying to answer it correctly before continuing. Of course, the student may answer incorrectly, but the narrator will be sure to give the right answer when the play button is pressed to resume the lesson. Right or wrong, however, the student is regularly engaging in analytical and critical thinking, and that is a healthy exercise, in and of itself.

Second, each incremental concept is explored in detail, using no shortcuts, tricks, rules, or formulas, and no step in the process is ignored. As such, the logic and the continuity of the development assure students that they understand completely. Subsequently, learning is more efficient, and all of the required concepts (topics) of the subject can be covered with mastery.

There are 170+ video lessons contained in 8 units. The program covers The Structure of Geometry,Essential Elements (Fundamental Terms & Fundamental Theorems), Simple Closed Plane Curves (Triangles, Other Polygons & Circles), Loci and Constructions, and Trigonometric Relations.

*(VideoText Online comes with no physical books or DVDs, but instead offers access to these materials via the VideoText Online website. $299 pricing reflects licensing for first two students. Addadditional students in your familys household for $49 each. Each student license will last three years from the date it is activated for each individual student (we gladly grant extensions, if necessary), and instructor accounts may also be turned on for a short period by request for SAT/CLEP prep after a student license has expired. Students do not have to be consecutive and the wait time between each activation is unlimited. Online Programs have a full 30-day money back guarantee. **Module F is still in production for Geometry and is considered Pre-Ordered in the online course packages. Please note: This module contains Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus and is not needed to complete a Geometry credit.
