Cursive Success 2025 Edition Teacher's Guide | Handwriting Without Tears

This pick-up-and-go teacher’s book provides pacing for 27 weeks of lessons. This vertical script cursive connects letters in streamlined ways, eliminating excess frills, serifs, etc. Letters are also joined in ways that eliminate additional strokes. You’ll have frequent opportunities to monitor your student’s handwriting progress with regular “Pause and Practice” sections. Explicit instruction includes reduced student pages that guide the parent or teacher in using scripted teaching while making additional connections to reading, writing, and general knowledge. Interesting writing themes include geometry and measurement, marching bands, and quotations. Periodically, teachers will read a list of words for students to write (these are not listed in the student book). The recommended manipulatives for this level are the Ready for Cursive Poster Set and the Blackboard with Double Lines. If your student needs additional writing practice at this stage, the previous edition’s Building Writers and Writing Journal will still work nicely. While optional keyboarding and other tech skill activities are suggested, the classroom digital teaching tools are only available for traditional classrooms and not for home use (identified with a laptop/tablet icon).
