Written to
meet the needs of 21st century students, myWorld Interactive
Social Studies is engaging, adaptable, and research-based. This is a
recently updated secular social studies program and parents may want to preview
the content to ensure it aligns with your family's beliefs. There are 2 components to the program: the
consumable, softcover Worktext and the Online Digital Component. Purchase
includes both components, and they are not sold separately.
Vibrantly
illustrated, the Student Worktext provides lesson readings, comprehension
checks, and a variety of other interactive activities. Many activities refer to
working with a partner but homeschool families should easily be able to
complete the activities. Some group activities are also mentioned, which can be
adapted or skipped without problems. This course is quite adaptable for various
learning situations and styles. Throughout the Worktext, icons direct the
student to go online to use the digital resources. Digital resources vary by
grade and lesson. Short video clips, audios, games, online assignments (called
interactivity), and the like are identified. That said, there are some
fantastic resources in the worktexts! Using Level 5B as my reference, there is
an entire unit on Geography/Map Skills, a Writing Workshop, lists of people to
know (biography potential), numerous graphs and charts, and primary sources,
where students can read the documents themselves – not someone’s
interpretation. Illustrations are culturally sensitive and inclusive
representing multiethnic peoples, diverse cultures, and extended as well as blended
families.
Online
resources include the previously mentioned student resources, assessments,
e-texts in Spanish, and the Teacher Resources. These resources make it easy for
older students to work independently without being on the vastness of the internet.
There is also a multisensory element to this program that will appeal to a
variety of learners. Teacher resources are only available on the digital
platform and include a wealth of helpful resources including a full teacher
guide with lesson plan summaries; editable student worksheets and chapter
tests; hands-on activities; leveled readers with lesson plans; and other
general resources such as graphic organizers, maps, and correlations to
national standards. Answers are found in the Teacher Edition e-text or more
conveniently under each chapter or topic section. Students do not have access
to answers. Sold as a homeschool bundle that includes a student text and
one-year access to the Savvasrealize.com digital platform. ~ Sara/Deanne
