One player acts as a newspaper editor and will do all that they can to uncover the truth; meanwhile, the other player acts as the Nixon administration and tries to smother the evidence as quickly as possible in order to complete the president’s term. Not only will players experience a duel of a game, but they will also learn many historical pieces of information throughout game play. Character cards feature real people who were involved in both sides of the Watergate case. The instruction book also features brief backgrounds on each of the mentioned people. Game includes 1 Nixon card, 1 administration card, 20 Nixon character cards, 20 editor character cards, 1 initiative card, 1 review card, 36 evidence tokens, 7 picture tiles, 9 momentum tokens, 1 initiative token, 1 drawstring bag to contain loose pieces, 1 game board, and one 23-page instruction booklet. Publisher's Description of Watergate: White Box Edition Game
In June 1972, five men are arrested in Washington’s Watergate building. What looks like a third-rate burglary attempt on the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee induces journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein of the Washington Post to start a thorough investigation. Over the following two years, they discover that the five men were directed from within the White House to spy on political opponents. As a consequence, in 1974 President Richard Nixon resigns from office to avoid impeachment.
In Watergate, one player assumes the role of a Journalist, while the other embodies the Nixon Administration—each with a unique set of cards. To win, the Nixon Administration must build up enough momentum to make it to the end of the presidential term, whereas the Journalist must gather enough evidence to connect two informants directly to the President. Of course, the administration will do all in its power to smother any evidence.
Watergate: White Box version features a stunning, thematic box cover of the original best-selling and award-winning Watergate game. Both Classic and White Box versions contain the same game. The only difference is the box cover.
