Description
Set includes Textbook and Solutions Manual for Physics 2nd Edition. The course comes in two parts. The "mass"ive part is the student text, which also includes "On Your Own" questions with accompanying solutions and discussions, lab exercises, end-of-chapter review questions and practice problems. Color drawings help to illustrate points on all the concepts covered, which include Measurement and Units, Motion in One Dimension, Two-Dimension Motion, Newton's Laws, Circular Motion, Work and Energy, Momentum, Periodic Motion, Waves and Optics, Electrostatics, Electrodynamics, Electrical Circuits, and Magnetism. The second part is Solutions and Tests, which includes answers to review questions, answers to practice problems, chapter tests, and test answers. This manual does include the perforated tests listed separately below. Each of the 16 chapters, or modules, is designed to take about two weeks if done daily for 45 to 60 minutes per day. Since physics involves some higher-level math, Algebra I, geometry and basic trigonometry are prerequisites for this course.
Category Description for Exploring Creation with Physics

Judging by the number of Saxon Physics books we sell in a year, physics must not be a very popular course among homeschoolers. But this book could change that. Just as in Dr. Wile's other science books, he does a wonderful job of explaining complex ideas in simple, understandable terms, using common household items for experiments instead of expensive lab equipment, and discussing science from a creationist standpoint. The author also suggests taking other science courses, like biology and chemistry, before this course. This book was revised in 2004, and the new edition features many useful updates. Module 1 is no longer a review of chemistry, so if a student has not already taken chemistry, he will be directed to an online version of the first module of the chemistry course. This way, students can learn the basic skills needed for the physics course even if they have not taken chemistry. More topics have been added to this edition, as well as extra practice problems; cumulative tests for those who wish to assign quarterly, semester, or final exams; ten more experiments; as well as a directory of online resources for students who have the time and desire to access advanced subject matter. What do students think of the course? One wrote, "On my very first test in college physics, I got the highest score in the class. My professor said that I must have had an excellent high school physics course. He was right!"

Even though the module tests are found in the solutions and test manual (so that the parent/teacher always has a copy of them), a second set of tests is provided in a perforated booklet. This allows the student to be given the tests without using those in the solutions and test manual.

I love it!!
This is the best science high school curriculum my kid used. It comes with the kit experiments. The review and test. It has concepts very clear. It is rigorous but my kid did not have any problems with it. So far my kid likes it!! We are planning in using the next one which is physics advance.

Very wordy text, not that great for physics
The subject of physics lends itself to diagrams for instruction, but unfortunately this textbook is very wordy. For a homeschooler with no teacher, it's better than nothing. However, the sheer volume of text explanations of physics concepts takes what should be straight-forward topics and makes them more complicated than they need to be. The author's biology text take a similar approach, but that works well for biology (which by its nature has a lot of words).
For my kids with this textbook, I have them ignore a lot of the writeup and focus on doing the problems, referring to the text only when needed to undertsand a topic.

Great physics curriculum
My high school daughter has successfully used several of Dr. Jay L. Wile's textbooks before (good for independent study) and continues to enjoy his conversational tone. Difficult material but extensive, detailed information is discussed thoroughly, and each module of instruction contains both in-chapter and end-of-chapter problems and a final review. Also, the labs are in this book and are "homeschool friendly." The solutions manual provides an answer key with explanations.

consistent quality
As with other Apologia Science courses, Exploring Creation with Physics is user-friendly, solid material. With simple, understandable experiments, helpful practice problems, and clear explanations of the solutions, my 11th grader is able to grasp the concepts and have success in learning this difficult subject.

Apologia Physics
This is a very comprehensive physics curriculum. It will prepare the kids well for college physics. I have used with all my kids the science Apologia courses from elementary science to high school biology, chemistry and anatomy. I love how the course is designed, the experiments and the work in general. My kids have learned so much from their science curriculum. Apologia does a great job with their science courses. I highly recommended for anyone looking for a strong science curriculum!

Exploring Creation with Physics
My daughter HATES math. Physics is big on math! We first tried Saxon Physics to go along with our homeschool group and she was in tears. I finally decided to switch to Exp. Creation w/Physics because she has loved the Exp. Creation Biology & Chemistry in the past. It has made all the difference. It's a very good book & she still needs to do the math in it, but it's not overwhelming in the math department.

My son has completed Apologia Biology and is now doing Apologia Chemistry He cannot wait to do his course each week (hes in a virtual co-op) I like how Apologia has ways to learn for different learning styles You can use the text on its own listen on Mp3 files use the Windows Explorer-driven CD-rom text get supplemental videos and of course the labs have hands-on learningThe labs are easily done at home with some material sets you can purchase from Apologia or elsewhere They are top-notch high school labs which teach the proper ways to do lab reportsApologias content is both broad and deep If you want to teach from a creation perspective these of course are geared for that But the texts also explain the evolutionary side of things so that when your child takes standardized tests they will know and understand the evolutionary science questionseven without believing they are the truth

Why did you choose this?

Creation based curriculum

Taking Veritas live course, got a lotta kiddos, so saving $17 matters to me - thank you, RR, for your great prices!

Required for my daughter's home school education

My son is completing Physics for his senior year science credit

Does this set come with the USB port?

No. When I ordered this set, I received the Textbook, solutions manuel, and a tests booklet. That is all.

Is there a math prerequisite?

While sometimes you will see listed that Algebra II is a prerequsite or required corequisite, it truly is NOT needed. The student must have completed high school Chemistry and be proficient in working with equations that involve cancelling/converting units (Algebra I material). In addition the student must have covered relevant Geometry topics (sine/cosine/tangent, right triangles, Pythagorean theorem, etc.)

Does the test Manuel come with this set?

This set includes the textbook plus a set of tests and a "solutions" manual which is the answer key.

Is this the 2nd edition?

yes, it is the 2nd edition which is used by the Apologia Academy

Trying to find out what grade level this would land in for prerequisites for college/university. My daughter is wanting to take a bachelors in nursing and needs physics 30 in an Alberta school. I googled the equivalent for in ON (Where we live) And it would be Physics (SPH4U or SPH4C), or OAC Physics. Would this physics course meet those requirements?

I am not familiar with the Canadian Physics courses you cite nor with Canadian requirements. This course would be considered standard, college-prep Physics (as opposed to Honors Physics or AP - Advanced Placement Physics). We always suggest that you contact the college/university you are considering for further information on what they will accept.
