Category Description for LLATL Red Program (3rd Ed.) - Grade 2

The Red Program (1-2) begins with a review of previously learned phonics skills, before continuing into intermediate and advanced phonics skills (with more emphasis placed on poetry, sentence structure, grammar, and writing). Integral to the program, the quality of children’s literature in the “Read-Aloud library” promotes a love of reading through time spent with children reading together. Enrichment activities are included to expand thinking, reasoning, and writing skills. Spelling and Handwriting (manuscript) instruction is included beginning in lesson 5. The Red Program Set includes the Teacher Book, Student Book and six Readers. Three supplemental readers are also available (not included) that can be used for additional practice, but are not necessary for the program (Forest Fables, Underwater Friends, and All Around the Farm). The read-aloud titles include ten classic children’s books that are used throughout the year. You can purchase the ten read-aloud books as part of the Complete Package with the Teacher and Student books, buy them separately, or source them from a local library.

E-book versions of the Red Program Teacher Book, the Student Book and the required six Readers are also available. In 1-2 business days after the order is processed, the publisher will send an email with information on how to access the files. Once the email is sent, you have 14 days to download the material. Once downloaded, they never expire from the customer's computer and can be read and printed from any device.

Great Program!
We are new to homeschooling and have been using the program for about a month and so far the children and I love it! It is broken out for a 5 day week, so it's easy to plan. The 5th day has a review for the week so that you can see if there are any areas your child needs more work on. It combines literature with the learning which works great for my kids because they love to read and working with a literary work makes it feel less like "school" to them. I highly recommend this program for children who aren't super receptive to learning straight grammar principles, but prefer to learn in application.

Love it!
We are on week 4 of this curriculum with my second grader. I absolutely love it. Hes being introduced to a wide variety of literature, poetry, stories. Each day is something new and there are hands-on activities and extras that are fun. My son is a reluctant writer. He can write well, but just doesn't want to. The writing is spread out, giving him practice but not tedious or long. Its made writing, reading, spelling and grammar very enjoyable for both of us!

Great curriculum
After being in public school K and 1st grade my DS who is dyslexic STRUGGLED with reading, writing and spelling. He hated all 3 because he couldn't understand the rules. For 2nd grade I took matters into my own hands and decided to homeschool. This was the only curriculum we used for Language Arts, I didn't want to overwhelm him so no other workbooks were used. In just months he began to read, and show huge interest in writing. We successful finished 2nd grade, he scored 100% on every Assessment in the LLATL book and now two months into summer break he is still showing interest in reading books and writes his own mini story books all the time. Thank you to the authors for creating such a wonderful curriculum for a child and easy for parent to teach. The readers were fantastic he loved every single one of them and couldn't wait till we would read a new story, also the content is great, with great moral, Christian based. We LOVED it, we will definitely be ordering the yellow book for 3rd grade.

Why did you choose this?

when i was young i liked this one best.

I chose this because based on the research I have done about the curriculum it will work best for my 2nd grader. Thank you!

We have used the LLATL program several times for several different grade levels in our homeschool. Fun and easy for the kids, easy to teach with.

A friend recommended this curriculum and it's been very helpful for our kids.

Is it worth it to buy the complete package?

While you can probably get the read-alouds at a library, it is nice to have a set of your own. The red level kit comes in a box with phonics readers, games, and the teacher guide. All of that is in this set.

a new version of this through company is $ 85 on their website. can you match? and do you have a new version of this?

This package is the read aloud books that accompany the LLATL Red Program. I was unable to find any packages on the publisher's website for these books.

I wonder if you are looking at the actual program which is a separate purchase. We carry that item here:

https://www.rainbowresource.com/product/000345/Learning-Language-Arts-Through-Literature-Red-Program-3rd.-Ed..html?

We do not do any price matching.

Is this a British curriculum?

Nothing in the curriculum makes us think it's specifically British. It's written in English and has stories that are generic enough to fit into most culture. It does not contain British spellings for words like color (colour) and flavor (flavour).

Do I need to purchase anything else in addition to this set?

No, not really. For a beginning writer you might want level appropriate lined paper, or make copies of the lined papers in the book. This curriculum is all you will need for language arts at this level.

Does this program include anything religious?

Yes, it includes Bible accounts and scripture in lessons.
