Upper grades lightning lit is just OK
We have used lightning literature for the lower grades and loved it however, the upper grades material felt unorganized and lacking. Some of the work assignments were underwhelming and others we struggled to complete. Wishing for a more cohesive, organized, upper grade curriculum.

Why did you choose this?

Nice strong literature, and my high schooler need that. Good book selection!

my son wanted a war based ELA, but this is what we found close

Love Lightning Literature and the kids do too. Hoping the High School package holds true!

used before and loved it!

Is this designed as a stand alone course, or must a student complete previous books in this series before he/she completes this one?

I think it can be a stand alone course. My son used it for 11th grade. We used it for a full year instead of just one semester, which they give scheduling options for in the book. I don’t think there was anything he could not do because he hadn’t done previous grade levels. My other son did their 8th grade curriculum and sometimes it would reference “if you didn’t do the 7th grade...” or “if you aren’t familiar with...” then skip this question type thing but that was about it. I think you can pick which ever set you want to work on, it’s not limited by grade for the high school levels.
