Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 8

Description

Starting in the middle school grades, each level of this Charlotte Mason–flavored language arts series analyzes and instructs in a particular type of writing. This focused attention is especially evident in level 8. Reading and writing assignments center on Scripture, as well as key Christian doctrines and worldviews. The required additional text for this course, God's Story, introduces these concepts. Scripture study provides biblical support, and students will memorize Scripture (John 20 and Matthew 13:1–52 and 18:10–35). Students will read and evaluate short statements (from a Protestant viewpoint) on Scripture, the Trinity, Jesus, Holy Spirit, sin, salvation, marriage/family, and human life and dignity. In addition to composition assignments—such as short story, paragraph, character sketch, and essays (descriptive, comparative, expository, and narrative)—students will learn the MLA format. Then, students are guided in developing and writing their own personal statement of faith as a culmination of a multi-week project. This course also teaches communication/interpersonal skills that fall under the category of good interpersonal communication and etiquette, such as common courtesies, voicing a complaint, resolving conflict, being a good listener, how to properly cut meat at the dinner table, and more. ~ Ruth
