Exploring Creation with General Science 3rd Edition Deluxe Set
Designed as a student’s first middle school science course, Exploring Creation with General Science by Apologia teaches the three branches of science while guiding students in the development of independent learning skills. Within the three branches, students study astronomy, geology, paleontology, meteorology, oceanography, marine science, life science, environmental science, and a basic overview of chemistry, physics, and biology. The history of science, scientific inquiry and the scientific method, documenting and interpreting experimental results, and scientific analysis are also covered. A biblical worldview is emphasized through the scripture references (NIV/NLT), creation connections, and the stories of scientists who believe the study of science declares the glory of God. Anatomy is not covered to prevent overlap of content from the Young Explorer Anatomy and Physiology course.
Exploring Creation with General Science contains 14 modules (chapters), with a suggested 4 day per week schedule. Each module will take 2 - 2 ½ weeks to complete, with the student spending one hour per day studying science. A suggested daily schedule is found in the companion Student Notebook. According to the publisher, 3 components are required: the Student Textbook, Student Notebook, and Solutions Book with Test Pages. Optional supplements are also available, including an MP3 Audio CD and a Video Instruction Thumb Drive. All components are sold individually or in one of several convenient sets below. Experiments and activities are integral to learning in this course. Numerous household items and science supplies are needed to complete all labs in the course; you may opt to gather these yourself or purchase the convenient Lab Kit from Nature’s Workshop Plus, which includes most of the necessary items.

If I were going implement a program and market it to homeschoolers, I would arrange EVERYTHING so that it is SIMPLE to follow the schedule. Example: Day 1 says to read pages 1-5. Day 2 is pages 5 - 10. Where should he stop on page 5 for Day 1? I called Apologia and asked if he should stop after the box "ON YOUR OWN," but they couldn't tell me.
The thumb drive has many video sections for module one but does NOT correlate them in ANY way, shape, or form to the schedule. In some cases, there will be more covered in the video than he reads that day.
To me, that is unacceptable. DO NOT act like your program is set up for kids to easily follow when I (a college educated nurse) can not easily figure out how to coordinate the videos with the daily lessons. IT IS NOT SET UP TO BE COORDINATED.
So basically, in my opinion, I am going to have to assist every single day and micro-manage their program because I can not simply say to him, "Do week one, day two," and then he does it because it is clear to him.
NOT IMPRESSED WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS PROGRAM. It is NOT user friendly AT ALL. (Even down to the fact that the student notebook is a HUGE spiral bound book that NO ONE could write in because the spiral gets in the way. I had to remove the spiral, punch holes in the pages, and then put it in a 3-ring binder so he can take out the pages as needed and write on them. The audio (read along) is NOT a CD, it is a DVD so you need to be home and use your TV and DVD to listen to it.
IF you are ordering this because it seems like an easy to use product with a well thought out design, layout, and schedule, be forewarned that it will ACTUALLY take quite a bit of your time to coordinate for your kid.
I am DISAPPOINTED that an organization that proudly proclaims ease of use designed for homeschoolers did such a shoddy job. Maybe the material will not disappoint. But I am looking for BOTH good material and ease of use.
If any homeschool moms or dads have figured out an easy way to coordinate all of this and can share it with me, please do!

We used Apologia Exploring Creation with General Science for our special needs 9th grader and our 7th grader and were pleased with the level of information and challenge. I found it to be a great course (as are all of Apologia's). I believe it is suggested for 7th or 8th grade
Gayle BTypically speaking, no. This is not high school level content. That said, you do you.
Sara CThere is a video flash drive that has instruction, further explanation, etc. Student still needs to read textbook. The videos helps explain things. The journal has day by day directions for student to follow and check off. This is briken down by week also. We haven't used yet, but I have purchased and reviewed. I'm pretty confident my upcoming 7th grader can do indepently. I also purchased experiment kit which is sold separately.

Looking for curriculum that covers a broad approach that ties all the sciences together. Also, like the opportunity for video lessons to supplement.
Starting to prepare for Highschool by starting with 7th grader in General Science. Heard it is student led, good for house with multiple kids (we have 3). Also liked idea of a video teacher to give…
Because of the Instructional Thumb Drive.
Needed workbook for this and you don't sell the 2nd edition workbook anymore, plus I needed to order the audio part for help with my second student
