After a review of print letters, this course starts students
in lowercase cursive and then finishes with an introduction of cursive
capitals. Students apply their cursive skills in writing their signatures,
copying poetry, and creating paragraphs and dates. This package includes the
Teacher Guide, essential manipulatives, and one consumable student book. After
completing this level, students will be familiar with and have a beginning
competency in cursive skills. ~ Ruth
Students start by reviewing print letters in developmental
order for the first 29 pages, then move to learning cursive lowercase letters.
The goal of this cursive methodology is to teach form and not style. Therefore,
letters are not written in slanted form. The order that cursive letters
are taught is also different—a developmental progression. After every few
letters that students learn and practice, they are given “Pause and Practice”
pages to review letter creation. The double-lines for writing are ½ inch wide;
however, this edition also provides opportunities to practice on other line
types. Students will practice writing about various subjects: geography, months
and dates, poems, and more. The Teacher Guide and consumable student book are
sold individually, in student and teacher packages, or in packages with
manipulatives. This program is great for left-handed students, students who
struggle with handwriting, or students who want a streamlined approach to
handwriting script. Students will need the manipulatives Ready for Cursive Poster Set,
the Blackboard with
Double Lines, and chalk
bits with little
sponge cubes. Packages are available. Note: Digital tools such as the IDTT
(Interactive Digital Teaching Tool) are available for traditional classrooms
only and are truly unnecessary in a small classroom/homeschool setting (for
example, a giant smart-board projection of the letter K). References to these
digital tools are clearly identified with a laptop/tablet icon.
