Category Description for Artistic Pursuits K-3 (3rd Edition)

The 3rd edition of the K-3 level is made up of three books, which together provide students a chronological overview of art history along with art lessons. The 2018 edition, which is a series of 8 hardcover books, is the most updated edition of the program, but this edition is still available and has some format differences. This series is comb-bound, and covers art history through three books. The 2018 series also incorporates video lessons and features larger reproductions of art masterpieces.

Book One teaches young students what artists do, what they see, and how to interpret these in light of ancient to medieval art, including cave paintings, palaces, pyramids and cathedrals. Book Two guides young artists through the Gothic, Renaissance and Romantic Periods. Book Three continues the journey, covering Impressionism and Modernism (both European and American) through painting and sculpture. As the following volumes are a continuation of the first volume, I would recommend that users begin with the first volume, particularly as it explains a lot of basic art concepts that are not revisited in much detail once you hit the appreciation lessons.

Why did you choose this?

This is a necessary component to this curriculum. Kids love this curriculum and it's perfect for a 30-45 minute art class with multiple students.

we had the book and were happy to find this art pack put together even though its an older version of Artistic Pursuits. Thank you!

I like getting all of the supplies from one place at one time to save time and money!

Does this come with the textbook, too? Or just materials?

This is ONLY a supply bundle.

I'm planning on using this for 2 students; if i buy this art bundle what extra supplies will I need?

I recommend double for the wood boards (or use cardboard instead; it would work just fine). Double for the paint and the round paintbrush (the paint actually comes with a decent paintbrush though, so you could use that). You also need two oil pastels, for the black if no other reason. We never remembered to use the pencils it came with, but you might want two of those if you'll use them. You need 2 cans of the plaster, but only one plastic spreading tool.

You do not need doubles of anything for print making. My two students were fine sharing two sets of ink, the brayer, and the plates. I also did not buy extra of any of the paper. I did have to buy more watercolor paper halfway through the year though. My kids made extra art sometimes though, so you might get away with just one pack.
