Why did you choose this?

it is a required textbook at a private school for homeschoolers

BJU prepares kids for college by writing a paper every chapter. Interesting stories and facts are learned as you study grammar.

For School

Needed some run of the mill writing and grammar program for my kids this year. Bought more than one grade again. Not wanting to do any unit study or lots of literature added program as we have found…

Does this teach composition? Does it teach essay writing such as narrative essays, persuasive essays, etc.?

This is a basic overall writing and grammar workbook / worktext. It DOES cover composition, essay, persuasive, fiction, etc... but it is not in depth. If you want more in depth, then you may want to supplement for a couple months. In our family, we work on 5 paragraph 1-2 page essays to use as a skeleton for larger projects. One 5 paragraph essay a day. At some point, we start a time limit such as 20 minutes to complete one. From there, papers are expanded to be larger and use this as the foundation. No short time limits for these though.
I always recommend praying for direction on which program(s) are best for each student and family. It makes a huge difference.
